Questions

Common questions.

A few things clients ask before getting in touch. If yours isn't here, just ask.

What does a quantity surveyor actually do?+

In short, we look after the money on a construction project — estimating costs before work starts, managing the budget as it progresses, valuing the work that's done, and settling the final account so everyone pays, and gets paid, the right amount.

Do I need a QS for a private project?+

If you're spending a meaningful sum on a build or extension, a QS protects that spend — an accurate budget at the outset, and an independent check on what you're billed as the work goes on. Many private clients find good cost control saves more than it costs.

When should we bring you in?+

The earlier the better. Involved at design stage, we can shape the budget before decisions become expensive to change — but we're happy to pick a project up at any point.

How are your fees worked out?+

It depends on the project and the scope of work. We'll always agree the basis with you — a fixed fee or agreed dayworks — and set it out clearly before anything starts.

Which areas do you cover?+

Oxfordshire and the surrounding counties — the full list is just below. If you're a little further afield, it's still worth asking.
